James Franklin was born on December 22nd, 1858 in Newcastle, Henry Co., KY.. James Franklin's father was Caleb Thomas BROWNING and his mother was Elizabeth LAND. His paternal grandparents were Henry BROWNING and Margaret (Mrs. Henry) BROWNING. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Robert Henry, William Abraham, George Washington, Caleb Benjamin, Thomas Eddison, Malvina, Margaret E., Joseph Delana, Hallie and Martha. He was the sixth oldest of the eleven children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named John M. and Lucy Jane. He died at the age of 77 on September 14th, 1936 in Ft. Scott, Bourbon Co., KS..-
