John was born in 1658.1   John's father was Robert Woodson and his mother was Elizabeth Ferris.  His paternal grandparents were John Woodson and Sarah Winston; his maternal grandfather was Richard Ferris. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Robert, Richard, Joseph, Benjamin, Sarah, Elizabeth, Judith and Mary.  He was the oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 57 in 1715.1
