Joseph was born about 1765.1   Joseph's father was John Ray and his mother was Sarah Miller.  His maternal grandparents were George Miller and Mary Comb. He had four brothers and five sisters, named James, George, John, David, Margaret, Jane, Sally, Susan and Lydia B..  He was the oldest of the ten children.  He died on September 19th, 1819 in Orange Co., N. C..1
