John was born about 1642 in England.1   John's father was William Gifford and his mother was Mary Danforth. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Hananiah, William, Robert, Christopher, Patience and Mary. He had three half-brothers named Jonathan, James and James.  He died in 1708 in Sandwich, Massachusetts.2
