Janet was born in 1504 in Atholl, Perthshire, Scotland. Janet's father was John II Stewart and her mother was Janet Campbell. Her paternal grandparents were John I Stewart and Eleanor Sinclair; her maternal grandfather was Archibald Campbell and her maternal grandmother is Elizabeth Stewart.
