Robert was born about 1518.  Robert's father was Randall Grosvenor and his mother was Ann Charlton.  His paternal grandparents are Randall Grosvenor and Margaret Mainwaring; his maternal grandparents are Richard Charlton and Anne Mainwaring. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Geffrey, Catherine, Randall, Henry, Elizabeth and Margery.  He is the fourth oldest of the seven children.
