Hugh was born about 1186 in Wigmore, Herefordshire, England. Hugh's father was Roger II De Mortimer and his mother was Isabel De Ferrers. His paternal grandparents were Hugh De Mortimer and Maud De Meschines; his maternal grandfather was William De Ferrers and his maternal grandmother is Goda De Toeni. He had four brothers and a sister, named Ralph, Roger, Robert, Philip and Joan. He was the oldest of the six children. He died in 1227.General Notes
