Marie was born about 1204 in Constantinople, Turkey, Byzantine Empire. Marie's father was Pierre II De Courtenay and her mother was Yolande De Flanders. Her paternal grandparents are Pierre I De Courtenay and UNKNOWN Elizabeth; her maternal grandparents were Baudouin VIII De Hainault and Marguerite De Lorraine. She had four sisters named Maguerite, Yolanda, Agnes and Eleanor. She was the second youngest of the five children. She died in September 1222.General Notes
