Walter De Clare 
Walter was born about 1062. Walter's father was Richard Fitzgilbert De Clare and his mother was Rohese Giffard. His paternal grandfather was Gilbert I Crispin De Brionne and his paternal grandmother is Gunnora De Aunou; his maternal grandparents were Walter I Giffard and Agnes Flaitel. He had three brothers and a sister, named Gilbert Fitzrichard, Roger Fitzrichard, Robert Fitzrichard and Rohese FitzRichard. He was the second oldest of the five children. Walter De Clare was the youngest son of Richard Fitz Gilbert and t he
brother of Gilbert De Clare. He was granted land in the Wye Valley and in
1131 founded Tintern Abbey. He is believed to have died in 1138.
