Alexander was born about 1452 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland. Alexander's father was Robert Boyd and his mother was Mariota Maxwell. His paternal grandfather was Thomas Boyd and his paternal grandmother is Isabell Lyle; his maternal grandfather was John Maxwell and his maternal grandmother is Janet Crichton. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Archibald, John, Elizabeth, Annabella, Euphemia and Margaret. He was the third oldest of the eight children. He died after 1519.General Notes

Alexander Boyd, 3rd Baron Boyd is the son of Robert Boyd, 1st Lord
Boyd of Kilmarnock and Mariot Maxwell. He married Janet Colville,
daughter of Sir Robert Colville, in 1505.
He gained the title of 3rd Baron Boyd.
