His maternal grandfather was Richard Sargent and his maternal grandmother is Lydia Boyce. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Jr. Southwick, Royal, Jonathan, Enos, Jane, Lydia, Hannah and Phoebe. He is the second youngest of the nine children.General Notes
