James Battee was born on February 11th, 1823 in Thornton, New Hampshire. James Battee's father was Jacob Sargent and his mother was Martha Webster. His paternal grandparents were Jacob Sargent and Mary Pattee. He had seven brothers and a sister, named Joseph Webster, John Rogers, Jacob Livermore, Roswell Chapman, Belton Webster, Bradley Varnum, Andrew Jackson and Martha H.. He is the fifth oldest of the nine children.-
