Russell J. was born in 1892 in Hillsdale County, Michigan. Russell J.'s father was Noah Seldon Field and his mother is Olive Lawrence. His paternal grandparents were Elijah Seldon Field and Rhoda Ann Hillard. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Arthur, Ferris, Sheldon, Alice, Lucy, Alma, Lulah, Eunice and Barbara Elizabeth. He is the third youngest of the ten children.-
