John Lowell was born on September 14th, 1885 in Bon Homme, SD. John Lowell's father was Silas Donald Chatfield and his mother was Anastasia McDermott-Gallagher. His paternal grandparents were Oliver Chatfield and Charlotte Kimball. He had two brothers and a sister, named Anna Elizabeth, Silas Albert and Mary Jane. He was the second oldest of the four children. He had three half-brothers named Oliver, Thomas and John H. He died at the age of 53 on February 18th, 1939.-
