Matilda was born in 1079 in Dunfermline, Fifeshire, Scotland. Matilda's father was Malcolm Caenmor and her mother was Margaret Aethling. Her paternal grandparents were Duncan MacCrinan and Sibyl Aeflaed Bjornsdattir; her maternal grandparents were Edward Aetheling and Agatha Von Braunschweig. She had two brothers named Ethelred and David. She was the second oldest of the three children. She died at the age of 39 on May 1st, 1118 in Westminster Palace, London, Middlesex England.
