His maternal grandfather was William V Tallifer and his maternal grandmother is Alix de Courtenay. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Guy, Geoffrey, William, Agnés, Alice, Marguerite and Isabelle. He was the oldest of the eight children. He had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named King Henry III of, Earl of Cornwall, Joan Lackland of, Isabella Lackland Princess of and Eleanor Lackland Countess of. He died at the age of 38 in 1260.-
