Her paternal grandparents were George Heinrich Bendixen and Catherina Margarette Lauritzen; her maternal grandparents were Boy Knudsen and Mathilda Catharina Carstens. She had two brothers and a sister, named Henry Bernhardt, George William and Emma Louisa. She was the oldest of the four children.-
