Barbary York was born in 1786. Barbary York's father was John Allred and his mother was Margaret Cheney. His paternal grandparents were John Arledge and Virginia Annie Hamilton; his maternal grandparents were Francis Cheney and Sarah Aurick. He had nine sisters named Joseph, Elizabeth Hannah, Caroline Julian, Sarah, Susanna Gwen, Lydia, Margaret, Mary and Rebecca. He had three half-brothers and eight half-sisters, named John, Joseph, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Catherine, Susannah, Barbara, Lidy, Margaret, Mary and Rebecca.-
