James was born in 1683 in Randolph County, North Carolina.  James' father was David Hamilton and his mother was Annah Jaxson or Jackson.  His maternal grandfather was Richard Jackson. He had four brothers named David, Abiel, Jonas and Gabriel.  He was the youngest of the five children.


James' family with Grace

‌James and Grace were married in a religious ceremony in 1708 in Randolph Co, NC.  They had three sons and four daughters, named John, James, William, Virginia Annie, Charity, Sarah and Rebecca.
