William, known as "Mafonache", was born in Gloucestershire, England.  "Mafonache"'s father was Earl Robert de Mellent ("the King's Son") de Caen of Gloucester and his mother was Mabel FitzRobert.  His paternal grandparents were King Henry ("Beauclerc", "Fine Scholar") Plantagenet I of England and Isabel de Beaumont; his maternal grandfather was Robert FitzHammon and his maternal grandmother is Sibyl de Montgomery. He had a brother and three sisters, named Philip FitzRobert, Emma fitzRobert, Mabira and Maud.  He died on November 23rd, 1183.  He was buried in Priory, Keynsham, Somersetshire, England.


"Mafonache"'s first family with Hawise ("de Beaumont") de Beaumont of Leicester

‌"Mafonache" and "de Beaumont" were married in a religious ceremony about 1150 in Leicestershire, England.  They had a son and a daughter, named Robert FitzWilliam and Amicia.
