Charles, known as "the Bald", was born on June 13th, 0823 in Frankfurt, Hessen-Nassau, Prussia. "the Bald"'s father was Emperor Louis ("the Pious") I of Aquitaine and his mother was Princess Judith von Andechs-Bavaria. His paternal grandparents were Emperor Charlemagne of the Holy Roman Empire and Hildegarde of Vinzgau; his maternal grandparents were Count Welf von Eritgau I of Andechs and Heilwig von Saxony. He had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Lothair, "the German", Le Germanique, Rotrud, Hildegard, Gisela and Adelheid. He died at the age of 54 on October 6th, 0877 in Brides Les Bains, Bourgogne. He was buried in St Denis, , France.General Notes
