Anderson District, SC, Affidavit of Benjamin Smith being sworn in due fo
rm of law on Oath sayeth that he was well acquainted with Peter McMahan be
fore he was an Enlisted Soldier & does believe that he did enlist under Ca
ptain John Purvis and did serve out his time that he enlisted for & does t
hink that he did enlist in the Revolutionary War in about one year after t
he war commenced & does further say that the said McMahan did doe serv
is at the Seige of Ninety Six with him Said Deponent and at many other pla
ces in the uper part of the State after he had got his Discharge in the ar
my Sworn to & Subscribed before me this 30th Day of September 1833.

2 October 1833: State of South Carolina, Anderson District personally appe
ared in open Court being the Court of Sessions (?) Pleas for said Distri
ct Peter McMahon a resident of said District and being Sworn declares as f
ollows in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed 7th Ju
ne 1832. He was born in Pennsylvania in March after Braddocks Defeat bei
ng now according to his calculation in his seventy eighth year and th
at he removed into Abbeville in this State when a boy and at which pla
ce he entered the service of the United States but that by reason of old a
ge & bodily infirmity
& the consequent loss of memory he cannot swear positively to the preci
se length of his service or the time of entering it but has a distinct rec
ollection that he enlisted in the State Troops for Six months to contin
ue three years if required under Capt John Purvis and Col. Thompson and th
at he did serve three years. That his first (?) was at Nelsons Ferry and t
hat he has some (?) confused notion or recollection of places and differe
nt marches made He knows of no other testimony than that furnished herewi
th of his service & his name is not found on the Pension List of any agen
cy in any State and that he is a Pensioner of the State of South Caroli
na which he would cheerfully relinquish on being provided for by Congres
s. Sworn to in open court day & year aforesaid.

cKinney residing in the same hereby certify that we are well acquainted wi
th Peter McMahon who has sworn to and subscribed the above declaration. Th
at we believe him to be seventy eight years of age. That he is reputed a
nd believed in the neighborhood where he resides to have been a soldi
er of the Revolution and that we concur in that opinion

Affidavit of John Warnock
Being Sworn in due form of Law sath on his oath that he was well acquaint
ed with Peter McMahan in the time of the Revolutionary War and that he kno
ws that said McMahan enlisted under Captain John Purvis who was under t
he command of Colonel Thompson of the (?) Third Regiment of this State t
he time of enlistment was for six month or three years of Required and aft
er Six Months expired he was still retained in the service he thinks for t
he full time of Enlistment Deponant also says on oath he the said McMah
an done a great deal of Malitia Duty after his time of Enlistment was o
ut the time he entered the service was either in the last of July or fir
st of August Seventeen Hundred & Seventy five.
