Richard was born about 1389 in of, Salisbury, Wiltshire, England. Richard's father was John Montagu (Montacu and his mother was Maude Francis. His paternal grandparents were John Dedist of Columb Montagu (Montacu and Margaret Dedist of Columb Monthermer; his maternal grandparents are Adam Francis and Alice Francis. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Robertus (Montacute), Thomas, Margaret, Anne and Elizabeth. He is the youngest of the six children.-
