He appears as a typical leader among the Norman nobles, proud of hisconnec
tion with the Dukes of Normandy, contemptuous of the base-born Duke Willia

n. He is said to have been the first to carry Norman arms to the Spaini
sh Peninsula. He was sent to Spain by King Henry I of France to aide Ki
ng Ferdinand. This rough Normann leader was know for his cruely and invinc
ibility. It was in Spain that he found his wife. When William became the D
uke of Normandy, Roger joined the revolt against him. But in a fight wi
th Roger De Beaumont, both Roger and his 2 sons, Herbert and Helmant, we
