ed the castle but was routed and barely escaped with his life.

"Ralph De Tonei II was a General with Duke Richard of the Norman forc
es at Auxerre in 1003. About 1011 Count Ralph De Tonei II was appointed Ca
stellan of Tillieres with Nigel, Viscount of Coutances. By 1016, Count Ral
ph had a falling out with Duke Richard and banished from the duchy. He we
nt to Salerno, Italy. We later find Count Ralph with his son Roger (Rog
er the Spaniard) and Nigel de Coutances defending the castle at Tillier
es against Odo de Chartres. Count Ralph also had a son Hugh De Limesy w
ho had taken his surname after Limesy, a manor which belonged to the De To
nei's. Count Ralph's other sons were Ralph, Baldric and Robert who foug
ht at the Battle of Hastings. He also had another son Berenger d'Espagne (
