William Francis Wells Sr. 
William Francis was born on August 16th, 1798 in Hall Co., GA, USA. William Francis' father was Charles Wells and his mother was Sally. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Wells and Ann Farrow. He was an only child. He died at the age of 37 on March 6th, 1836 in Died At The Alamo.General Notes
Cora Dudley Had a Great deal of information on Wells and traveled to Texas on several occasions to meet with family members who had moved to Texas from Hart and Franklin Co. Grandmother Morris was the only family member to remain in Georgia. Her reason for staying was her family . WWsr. was by history a ferry attendent for some time and worked on the Arkansas river. It was there were he first met Jim Bowie and started to move about. This was several years prior to his death at the Alamo. On September 19 in 1827Jim Bowie was acting as second in a duel between Wells and Maddox. THIS DUEL WAS FOUGHT ON A SANDBAR IN THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER BETWEEN NATCHEZ MISS. AND VIDALIA, LOUISANA and is documented in the local press. There is a fairly larg library in Vidalia. WWsr was an apparent friend of Dr. John Sutherland who loaned him money to purchase a Yeager rifle. Sutherland did not die at the Alamo. He was a courier at the time and was out of the fort when the attack began. Wells arrived at the Alamo apparently in the company of Captain Patton.
