William Clayton was born in 1866 in Elbert Co., GA, USA. William Clayton's father was Bert and his mother was Martha Jane. His paternal grandparents were Barden Rucker and Frances Alexander; his maternal grandparents were James W. Jones and Delina Foster. He had a brother and a sister, named Joe and Mollie. This is my greatgrand father, the father of my grandmother Ford. He was
originaly from elbert co. where his family was very successful farmers.
one of his forebarers is said to be Ga. first millionaire. I remember him
as a large gentleman with a handlebar mustache who when i was was very
quite. He was married to his 2nd wife during the time that i can
remember. Her name was Sallie Robertson or Robinson. She had an
illegetiment daughter prior to their marriage. Her reputation in a small
southern town was of course wasted. She was many yrs younger than
William and i remember her as being a very harsh and outspoken person.
