It is possible that his initial Christian name was Edwin Robert Ridgway. However, he was known as Edwin Ridgway, and he eventually--and possibly always--used the full name of Robert Edwin Ridgway. He was a medical doctor in Royston, GA most of his life. He was known as "Dr. Ed" by many people.

After leaving Royston he studied at Richmond Academy in Augusta Ga. From
there he went to the Medical College of Ga. After finishing there he
interned at St. Barnabus Hospital in New Jersey and took additional work in
Infectious diseases. He met his wife at that hospital where she was a
nursing student.
He was an excellent tennis player and won the Augusta city singles
championship while at Richmond Academy.
