Her paternal grandparents are William Stewart and Rebecca Sistrunck; her maternal grandfather is James Hamilton Daniel and her maternal grandmother was Lou Ella Alexander. She had two brothers and four sisters, named James Lawson, Houston, Irene, Jessie Bell, Annie Lou and May. She died at the age of 80 on June 13th, 1997.
