Samuel Hobbs was born on March 12th, 1836 in Wilton,Maine. Samuel Hobbs' father was Jeremiah Smalley and his mother was Mary Bartol Merrill. His paternal grandparents were John Smalley and Sybil Hobbs. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Charles H., Charles Clement, Jeremiah Albert, Julia Ann, Ardelia Frances and Mary Ellen. He was the oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 31 on October 20th, 1867 in Jay,Maine.-
