Smalley and his paternal grandmother is Catherine Trader. He had two sisters named Christina Elizabeth and Lucretia. He had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Calvin Luther, James Freeman, Mary Ann, Lennie Ellen, Roseleen and Cynthia Caroline. He died at the age of 79 on June 28th, 1931.-
