Nancy Ann was born in 1843 in Virginia. Nancy Ann's father was James Shorter and her mother was Tamsey B. Ramsey. Her paternal grandfather is John Shorter and her paternal grandmother was Nancy Palmore. She has two brothers and four sisters, named William M., John James, Malinda Francis, Louisa A., Sarah E. and Tamsey Ann Palmyra. She is the fourth oldest of the seven children.-
