Cousin to Samuel Smalley , between whom the strongest friendship always existed, were the most prominent men in the affairs of the town of Scarborough for nearly half a century. They were both members fo the Provincial Congress during the Revolutionary period, and wre on the Committee of Correspondence and Safety, " Enspection," in 1775, 1777, 1778, and 1779. At the beginning of the Revolutionary War, Samuel was Lieutenant-Colonel in Colonel Edmund Phinney's 31 st. regiment, "engaged April 24, 1775 and served to Aug 01, 1775. He also appeared on a list of field and staff officers of Captain John Brackett's company dated Sept 29, 1775. Samuel was the well known Col. Samuel March of Scarborough, Maine.
