Clara Bell's father was Thomas Jefferson Keahey and her mother was Frances Arrener King. Her paternal grandparents are John Keahey and Sarah Elizabeth Methcalf. She had four brothers and a sister, named Archibald Smith, John Alexander, Thomas Jefferson ,Jr., Oscar and Sara Elizabeth.-
