His paternal grandparents were Abel Elkin and Mary Skaggs. He had three brothers and four sisters, named John Martin, James, Abel, Nancy J., Chesley, Elizabeth and Mary. He had three half-sisters named Bernettie Ermon, Elizabeth and Evline. He died at the age of 78 on February 16th, 1926 in LaRue Co.,Kentucky.-
