Rachel was born on October 1st, 1806. Rachel's father was Abel Elkin and her mother was Mary Skaggs. Her paternal grandparents are Nathaniel Elkin and Rachel Elizabeth Hart; her maternal grandparents were Charles Skaggs and Lucinda Thompson. She had three brothers and five sisters, named William Melton, James, Abel ,Jr., Nancy, Betty, Polly, Diadema and Melvina. She is the oldest of the nine children.-
