Magel was born on November 29th, 1929 in Sevier Co.,Arkansas. Magel's father was James Henry Cannon and her mother is Minnie Parkerson. Her paternal grandparents were Oliver Green Cannon and Winnie Margaret Allen. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Willie Gene, James Harold, Charles Edward, Sidney Earl, Verna May, Bertia Louise and Theo Virginia. She has a half-brother named Foncie Leroy Hart.-
