Robert II was born in Upholand, Lancastershire, or Yoxall, Staffordshire, England.  Robert II's father was Robert de Holland and his mother was Elizabeth de Salmesbury.  His paternal grandparents were Thurstan de Holland and Daughter of Adam de Kellet; his maternal grandfather is William de Salmesbury and his maternal grandmother was Avina de Notton. He had three sisters named Joan, Margaret and Elizabeth.  He died on October 15th, 1328 in Boreham Wood, Essex, England.  He was buried in Greyfriars Church, Preston, Lancastershire, England.

‌Robert II and Maud were married in a religious ceremony.  They had two sons and five daughters, named Robert III, Thomas, Maud, Margaret, Alianore, Joan (Jane) and Elizabeth.
