His paternal grandparents were Thomas Woodward and Elizabeth Tyson; his maternal grandfather was Thomas Rogers and his maternal grandmother is UNKNOWN Mary. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, Isaac, Joseph, Sarah, Elizabeth, Martha, Mehitable, Abigail and Mary.
