Paul was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Paul's father was George Schaffer and his mother was Elisabetha Catherine Miller. His paternal grandparents were Georg Bartholomew Schaffer and UNKNOWN Anna. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Philip, George, David, Heinrich, Peter, Elizabeth, Catharina, Anna Maria and Eva. He had a half-brother and five half-sisters, named Joseph, Hannah, Anne, Catherine, Christiana and Betsy. He died in 1807 in Franklin County, Pennsylvania.-
