Josie was born in 1898. Josie's father was Peter Shaffer and her mother was Martha Martin. Her paternal grandparents were George E. Shaver and Isabelle Rodgers; her maternal grandfather was Shedrick Martin. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Edgar Peter, Luther Lewis, Loyd E., John Russell, Loubertia, Ittol E., Bessie F. and Cronie. She had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named George H., Elizabeth, Zoria C. and Becky. She died at the age of 60 in 1958.-
