Michael was born in 1755 in Altalaha, Rehersburg, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Michael's father was Johannes Schaffer and his mother was Maria Eva Saab. His paternal grandparents were Johann Nicolas Schaffer and Maria Magdalena Juliana Ulrich; his maternal grandfather was Joseph Saab. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Adam, George, Andrew, Nicholas, Catharina, Magdalena and Elisabeth. He died about 1830 in Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.-
