Rognvald's father was Olav the Black Godfreyson and his mother was Christina of Ross. His paternal grandparents were Godfrey the Black Olavson and Finnguala O'Nill. He had two brothers and a sister, named Harald, Magnus and Magnhild Olavsdatter of. He has four half-brothers named Leod Ljot, Godfred, Guin and Leadrius.-
