Everett Karmgard, son of Nils and Katherine (Mikkelsen) Karmgard, was
born February 12, 1916, in Kenmare, ND, where he grew up and graduated
from high school. He attended Minot State College, Minot, ND, and
received a bachelors degree in education after which he taught elementary
school for two years. Virgil then worked as a postal clerk in the
Kenmare Post Office. Virgil served in the United States Army in WWII,
from 1942 until 1945, serving overseas in North Africa and Italy. After
his discharge, Virgil made his home in Fargo, ND, where he worked as a
field representative for the Social Security Administration. He retired
in 1981. Virgil was united in marriage to Helen Bjorlie Sutton, on May
30, 1987, in Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo. He was a member of the Fargo
American Legion Post #2, Golden "K" Kiwanis, Red River Danes, Sons of
Norway, and Olivet Lutheran Church. Virgil E. Karmgard died Tuesday,
June 26, 2001, in his home at the age of 85 years. Virgil is survived by
his wife, Helen, Moorhead; two stepsons, Bob (Claudette) Sutton, Fargo,
and Ross (Joanie) Sutton, Shoreview, MN; one stepdaughter, Linda (Tim)
Folk, Moorhead; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his
parents, a brother, Robert; and stepson, Bill Sutton."
From the Cass County Reporter published in Casselton, Cass County, North
Dakota, dated June 25, 1987: " Helen Sutton and Virgil Karmgard, both of
Fargo, were married May 30, 1987, in Olivet Lutheran Churh, Fargo. Rev.
Mark Asleson of Barnesville officiated. Matron of honor was Linda Sutton
Folk, daughter of the bride. Best man and escort, respectively, were Bob
Sutton, Fargo, and Bill Sutton, Hunter, sons of the bride. Another son,
Ross Sutton of Rochester, Minn., was the soloist. Ushers were Clarence
Peterson and Chester Vosburg of Fargo, friends of the groom. The bride's
grandchildren, Jon and Kari Folk, Moorhead were the canclelighters.
Personal attendant was Joyce Jorgensen of Hunter. Claudette Sutton,
Fargo, was at the guest book. Program attendant was Joanie Kayfes,
Rochester, Minn. and Christy Larson, Hunter, was the flower attendant.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the atrium of Lincoln
Park Condominiums in south Fargo. Hosts were Verlyn and Evonne Anderson,
Moorhead. Cake servers were Myrtle Bjorlie of Pekin, Marlys Peterson and
Alice Vosburg, Fargo. Coffee servers were Ruth Bjorlie, Zumbrota, Minn.,
Cheryl Mortensen, Oregon, Wis., and Sandra Mortensen, Brooklyn, Wis.
Pianists were Ardis Witte of Moorhead, Meredity Wedberg of Hunter, and
Ione Langseth, Fargo. Punch servers were Carol O'Neill, Golden Valley,
Minn., and Francie Strand of Casselton. Libationers were David and Kurt
Jorgensen of Hunter. Reception servers were Lois Rieniets and Marjorie
Hill Erickson, both Fargo, and Lil Amundson of Climax, Minn. Reception
coordinators were Bille Schatzke and Ramona Frasse, both Fargo. Helen
taught home economics in Hunter, Grandin and Dakota School District for
several years. Prior to his retirement, Virgil was employed by the
Social Security Administration in Fargo. The couple will make their home
at 3250 15th Avenue South, Fargo."
