John was born before 1805.  John's father was Peter Andrew Hauff and his mother was UNKNOWN Barbara.  His paternal grandparents were Peter Hauff and Anna Mary. He had six brothers and two sisters, named Benjamin, Joseph, Elias, Joshua, Leonard, Peter, Sally and Anna.  He was the fourth youngest of the nine children.  He died on November 5th, 1824 in Augusta County, Virginia.

‌John and Sarah were married in a religious ceremony on March 15th, 1821 in Augusta County, Virginia.  They had two sons named George and John.
