Moses was born about 1801 in Hampshire County, Virginia (now West Virginia).  Moses' father was Joseph Boxwell and his mother is Leannah Bonham.  His paternal grandparents are Robert Boxwell and Winifred Carty. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Robert, Joseph, John, Nancy, Sally, Elizabeth, Martha, Mary and Letty.  He was the second oldest of the ten children.  He died after 1825.
