Annes was born in 1118. Annes' father was Gruffydd ap Cynan and her mother was Angharad verch Owain. Her paternal grandparents are Cynan ap Iago and Rhanullt O'Olaf; her maternal grandfather was Owain ap Edwin and her maternal grandmother is Morwyl verch Ednywain. She had five brothers and eight sisters, named Owain " Gwynedd", Cadwaladr, Cadwallon, Membyr "Ddu", Tudwal, Rhanullt, Gwenllian, Elen, Gwenllian, Merinedd, Susanna, Rhael and Margred. She is the third youngest of the fourteen children. She has a half-sister named Susannah.
