Aefje's father is Joris Jansen Van Horne and her mother is Maria Rutgers. Her paternal grandfather was Jan Cornelissen Van Hoorn and her paternal grandmother is Hillegonda Joris; her maternal grandfather was Rutgert Wouters and her maternal grandmother is Styntje Jacobs. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Cornelius, Dirck, Gerrit, Janeke, John, Rutger, Styntje Christina Joris, Hillegonda, Mary and Vrientie.
