Ethelbald was born in 0831. Ethelbald's father was Ethelwulf King of Wessex and his mother was Osburh Queen of Wessex. His paternal grandparents were Ecgbert King of Wessex and Redburga De Toulouse; his maternal grandfather is Oslac Chief Butler of Wessex. He had three brothers named Ethelbert, Ethelred I and Alfred. He was the oldest of the four children.General Notes
King Ethelbald of Wessex was the eldest son of King Ethelwulf of Wessex and was born in about 834. He became King of Wessex in 856 after forcing his father to abdicate, and married his widowed stepmother, Judith. The marriage was annulled on the grounds of consanguinity. He died in 860 and was buried at Sherborne in Dorset.
