Nancy was born in 1885. Nancy's father was Abraham Anders and her mother was Susan Spurlin. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Anders and Sarah Richardson; her maternal grandparents are Andrew Spurlin and Nancy Crouse. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Andrew Jackson, Elbert, James E., Crockett, Cleveland, Lina and Ollie. She is the fourth youngest of the eight children.-
